In Honour of the Silver anniversary of Faction Paradox and the debut of the War in Heaven in Alien Bodies, I thought it would be fun to do a collaborative anthology of fan works centring on the Absence of the Grandfather, for instance: a story in which Justine or Shuncucker contemplate or attack the idea that they may be the Grandfather. an archaeologist attempting to prove the existence of the Grandfather. A meeting between the Joanna Lummly’s 13th Doctor and Fletch form Porridge in an inter dimensional prison. and So on It will run until the end of the year, however the anniversary itself is in the 24th of November 2022. also thanks to garyshots for aiding in the planing process and naming of this digital fan anthology.

Here is my own story
In Absence: a tale of the speakers chair. The Chair is empty. It has always been empty. It has always been empty for at least the last 200 years. This is the Chair of the Speaker of the House of Commons. Well the Shadow of the Chair of the Speaker of the House of Commons, this is the Eleven-Day-Empire we are talking about and everything is shadows here. The Eleven-Day-Empire was supposedly created when the Grandfather, after experimenting with Alter-Time Realms sent one of their Godfather-Lieutenant’s to purchase 11 days from England when its changed calendar as those days would be lost. Now at the Time House Paradox was still based on the Houses Homeworld and whilst the Grandfather may have sat in the Speaker's Chair at one point, it is unlikely that they regularly used it or that it was a sign of authority. And so the seat sat empty. However sometime after the Grandfather retro annulled themselves, that is if they did ever not did exist in the first place, the House Paradox became the Faction Paradox and moved off the House Homeworld. The place they moved was not the Eleven-Day-Empire but to a homeworld of their own. And so the seat sat empty. Eventually the Second Wave destroyed this Homeworld of the Lords or Paradox and they did then move to the Eleven-Day-Empire. However instead of sitting in the chair the Faction appointed the Grandfather to be the Speaker of the House. Of course the Grandfather not existing meant that they had no one to sit in the chair and thus they appointed an acting speaker. This acting speaker is not to sit in the Chair, for only the Grandfather may sit in the Chair. And so the seat sat empty. There is a rumor of course. There is always a rumor. This rumor goes as follows: once upon a time there was a Godparent, now this godparent was ambitious and hungry for power, and so they took the title of acting speaker for themselves. Now they were happy with this position, for a while at any rate. And after a time they realized that the seat had more power than them, and if only the Grandfather can sit in the seat then they shall declare themselves the new Grandfather. And so they did. But upon taking the seat they vanished, they were forgotten. Some say that the chair did it, others say that was the Grandfather’s vengeful spirit angry at being usurped. And other, others say that they succeed and they became the new Grandfather Paradox yet to do so they had to kill their own grandfather before they were conceived, but that this act was not performed correctly as they had already done so and so the rectify this they killed their past self to stop them killing their ancestors, and so they got caught up in such nasty Paradox that they did not simply retro annul themselves they destroyed their shadow as well. Of course this is only a rumour. And so the seat sat empty.

I've done one- but I'm hoping for further installments, and time-travel being what it is, I think they might ripple back and retro-alter this one.
But don't think I'm not joining in, cos I am.

Reynard Greenleaf
The interest of posthuman scholars in the fifteenth century ballad Reynard Grenelefe, which is of limited intrinsic value, can safely be attributed to its evident influence upon the “Fyfth Fytte” of the more famous Lyttell Geste of Robyn Hode. In both, outlaws enter an archery contest sponsored by the local sheriff. In both, the prize is a valuable arrow, described as follows in the Geste: A ryght good arowe he shall haue The shaft of Syluer whyte The hede and the feders of ryche rede Golde In Englonde is none lykeRather than Robin and his band, in Reynard we are told of “three wyght yemen and a nutbrowne mayde”, although only two of the wight yeomen are ever named. The eponymous Reynard is clearly identifiable with the “Reynolde Grenelefe” of the Geste, in which he appears both as an alias for Little John and as a distinct character. The second is “Gylberte Wythehonde”, who corresponds with “Gylbert of the whyte hand”, another minor character from the Geste. The nut-brown maid is referred to as “Mad Meg” and described as a “wanton vagabond” and an “yll woman from a far Countrey”. This character has no obvious analogue in the Geste, as Maid Marian would not be introduced into the Matter of the Greenwood until the sixteenth century. We’re told that Reynard shot first and well, but that Gilbert shot better still and "slist the wand" used as a target. The text grows fragmentary at this point, but legible sections include “hawk’s shadow” and “syngelle bolt thrice-shotten”. It’s clear that there is great consternation amongst the crowd of spectators, and soon the outlaws are making a valiant last stand against the sheriff’s men. There follows a poignant scene in which Reynard, like Little John in the Geste, is “hurt full sore, with an arowe in his kne”. He begs Gilbert to grant him a quick death, far preferable to capture, but Gilbert is both unwilling to comply and “loath to fle”. At this point Mad Meg is said to “seize the bolt”, presumably from Reynard’s knee- but frustratingly the rest of the manuscript is lost. It is scarcely to be expected that any of the outlaws could have survived.

The Shadowgrim (or The Shadowhounds of Grandfather Paradox)
All and sundry have heard the story of Grandfather Paradox.
A logical problem that would arise from a person travelling into the past to negate their own birth.
And we all know the outcome... a person who intended to alter the past in such a way would more often than not have the cunning and wits to overcome the ensuing paradox and would find themselves reached out to by none other than the Faction themselves. But what would happen if someone unwittingly found themself in this situation? What if they didn't have the strength and prowess to release themself from the incongruity? Why... they would enter into the hordes of the Shadowgrim, Grandfather Paradox's faithful, and subservient hounds.
A local reporter, whose name was never recorded, had heard the many tales about the Shadowgrim. Dark, mysterious, shadowy creatures who were covered from head to toe in black robes. The Shadowgrim were said to be impossible to see by the average person and one must have had a connection since birth in order to even witness its existence, and even stranger... it is alleged that not a single soul has ever survived a Shadowgrim sighting. The act of laying your eyes upon a Shadowgrim is said to be fatal. That is why our reporter had several assistants along for her investigations, as should she see a Shadowgrim she wanted there to be witnesses to be able to record her findings if she wasn't able to report back herself. She was truly willing to lay her life on the line as part of her operation... and lay her life on the line she did.
As she entered into an abandoned ward at the local hospital where a sighting had been reported, she overheard what sounded like a woman's wailing and then she was accosted... a giant hooded figure pounded on her.
Next thing she knew she was back in her mother's arms, a baby again. She wanted to know what was going on but could only scream and cry out in frustration. Then she was a toddler taking her first steps, eating her first piece of broccoli, heading to her first day at school and having her first kiss. All the while the experience with the Shadowgrim at the hospital fell into neglect inside her mind. She graduated from university, became a reporter, learned about the Shadowgrim once more... the findings bringing back the same sense of de ja vu that she had felt numerous times throughout her life, and then she found herself back on the hospital ward being accosted by the hooded figure.
A baby again, toddler walking, first kiss, graduation, hospital ward, hooded figure. She was stuck in a loop now. Baby, toddler, kiss, graduate, hospital, figure, things were going faster for her... each time she planned to be able to change her fate, make a different decision, lead herself onto a new path but her memories could never survive infancy. All she could do was wail and cry as a baby, internally scream... toddler, kiss, hospital, baby, and again, and again, and again.
She thought she the loop would never end, that she would be forced to endure her life again and again forever. But after a while she began to separate from herself, fade into the background, further and further, like she was becoming her own shadow, instead of reliving her experiences... now she was watching herself from afar.
After an eternity she became so far removed that she was actually a couple of paces behind the woman who used to be her. And sometimes she would struggle to keep up with her own movements. Everything in the world was dark and murky apart from the woman she was now following. As she looked at her hands, they were turning dark too and streaming, black strands fell away from her as if she was fading into nothingness. But still she continued to follow herself, a ghost to her own existence. One day she truly did fail to keep up... her former self had entered the hospital ward seconds before her and by the time she had followed in after... she was gone. She was left alone in the pitch black, unable to see anything now, and without having herself to watch over for the first time she lost it... she wailed like a baby once more.
Then she heard the door unlock, and she turned to see a woman walk in, it was her again. She was relieved to see her, she thought she had lost her, thought she would be alone for eternity, and she dived to embrace her, to hold her, to never let her go again...
