I've talked about this before on the discord, but figured it was worth starting a thread for it here. Basically for anyone not in the know, this thread is about the search for the Jim Calafiore illustrations which were done exclusively for the hardcover version of Book of the War. Mad Norwegian released a limited run of 300 hardcovers, all signed by the editor Lawrence Miles as well as the artist Jim Calafiore, who also did the art for the Image comic. But additionally, there was a limited run of 10 hardcover copies that you could buy which included a custom Calafiore illustration of a Faction Paradox character of your choice drawn on the flyleaf. Now to my knowledge, only one of these illustrations is available online, posted below. It's of Sabbath Dei circa Adventuress, holding you-know-who's heart (read Adventuress of Henrietta Street if you haven't already.) No clue where this image was posted originally, but it's on Sabbath's wiki page and supposedly sourced from BotW. So I did some digging on the old FP forum and lo and behold, someone made a thread (linked below) showing off their Calafiore illustration of Godfather Sabbath, what a find! www.tapatalk.com/groups/factionparadox/unseen-calafiore-godfather-sabbath-illustration-t1216.html...oh the image is broken Oh well, at least we now know who one of the other characters illustrated was. Even better, Jonathan Dennis mentions a few posts down that he got one done of Brookhaven. So that's three illustrations accounted for and seven mystery ones to discover. That's why I'm putting out a call to anyone who bought one of these editions: What character did you request? Do you still own your copy? The people want to know!

An image of Godfather Sabbath would be very interesting.

Did those 10 hardcovers have any indication of whether they were of that 10 beyond the illustration on the flyleaf?

An image of Godfather Sabbath would be very interesting. Here you go if you haven't seen it already - it's in my copy on my bookshelf. I chose it as I liked the character and I was curious if the two Sabbaths were the same (seems an unsual naming coincedence if not). I wonder what the other illustrations might have been? Think I vaguely recall seeing someone else post a faction hollywood one but I don't know what the others might have been.

Oooooh very nice, thanks for sharing! I believe Miles' idea was that they weren't related at all, it's just one of those things where you know two or three people named Mike or something lol. He had planned for them to meet at some point in the audios, though. On a similar note, I'm seeing double...FOUR Lawrence Miles signatures!

I believe he said something like that but I don't buy them being two totally separate characters who coincidentally have the same name as Sabbath is such a weird and unique name.
I figure surely here must be some link between them? Perhaps they were the same person, or a clone or parallel version or somesuch. Or simply that one was aware of the other and had adopted the same name as a homage. I liked the character when written well and was curious to see if they looked alike though I guess we'll likely never know now what was going on with them.

The clearest indicator that they're different would be the respective origins of their names. Sabbath Dei is named as such because he was inducted into the Service on a Saturday, thus he's named for the Jewish Sabbath. Meanwhile, Mujun: The Ghost Kingdom's stand-in for Godfather Sabbath is Baron Nichiyobi, "NichiyĆbi" being the Japanese name for Sunday, aka the Christian Sabbath.

The illustration of Godfather Sabbath looks near identical to the illustration of Sabbath Dei though, which goes against the idea they are coincedentally named seperate people. Same haircut, facial features, etc.
